This May, Lark Hotels will open freshly painted doors to a bygone age with the introduction of Gilded, the newest boutique property in Lark Hotels’ collection of distinctive New England properties.
The hotel, which will boast 13 rooms and 4 suites, is a cheeky and modern twist on the over-the-top era that brought Vanderbilt and Carnegie to this seaside town. Imagine for a moment a fusion between 2015’s amenities and Gilded Age bejeweled decadence and – voila! – meet Gilded: a place for fun, relaxation, and sipping champagne.
Award-winning, Boston-based interior designer Rachel Reider sought inspiration from rococo, beaux arts, and other popular styles of the era while designing the interiors. A modern mix of ornate mirrors, lacquered surfaces, and gold accents come together to create envelope-pushing décor unlike anything found in Newport.
We had a lot of fun capturing the essence of this opulent time period and reimagining it for the modern day traveler,” Reider said. “I love rich jewel tones and luxurious fabrics, and Gilded was tailor made for them.”
Beyond the hotel’s lush design, whimsical takes on leisure activities of the Gilded Age will transport guests to another time. Guests can take advantage of the billiards room, complete with a black velvet and white lacquer pool table, and relax in the secluded courtyard with a croquet practice court.
Lifestyle brand vineyard vines®, the official outfitter for all Lark Hotels, will provide coastal chic attire for Gilded staff. The hotel participates in the “On a Lark Club,” which allows guests to accrue points for each stay that can be redeemed for a future stay, exclusive benefits, packages, and experiences.
Both historic and hip, Newport has long been famous for its proximity to the sea and sailing culture, as well as its old world mansions. While the quaint, quintessential charm of the town endures, Newport has also developed a vibrant restaurant, art, and music scene that allows for fun and mischief at every turn.
“Our property, The Attwater, has been a great success in Newport with it’s unconventional take on nautical style,” said Lark Hotels CEO, Rob Blood. “We look forward to guests seeing another classic side of Newport, the Gilded Age, depicted in a fresh and clever way with Gilded.”
To celebrate its grand opening, Gilded will be offering a Grand Opening Special. Guests who stay 2 nights in the first 20 days of May will receive 20% off their room rate, 2 tickets to a tour of The Breakers (the grandest of the mansions), and a chilled bottle of prosecco upon arrival.
