On August 1, 2024, Cape Air reinstated nonstop twice-weekly service between St. Croix, USVI and Vieques, Puerto Rico, providing convenient and accessible air travel options within the Caribbean. Cape Air will operate two weekly flights on Monday and Thursday between Henry E. Rohlsen Airport in St. Croix and Antonio Rivera Rodríguez Airport in Vieques. The flight schedule is optimally timed for local travel. Passengers can book their reservations now on capeair.com or by calling 1-800-CAPE-AIR.

Linda Markham, President and CEO of Cape Air, emphasized the airline's longstanding commitment to the Caribbean region, spanning over twenty-six years. She highlighted, “Cape Air has a pivotal role in linking island communities to major cities and facilitating seamless travel through partnerships with other carriers”.

"The reinstatement of air service between St. Croix and Vieques is a testament to Cape Air’s commitment to strengthening connections within the Caribbean communities,” stated Bobby Falcon, Cape Air's Managing Director of Airport Services. “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to bridge the islands with convenient and first-class service for both tourism and our local business connections."

“The return of Cape Air service between St. Croix and Vieques further elevates the connectivity between not just our community but also the tourism community with ease of inter-island transport,” shares Commissioner Joseph Boschulte of the U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Tourism. “Like many neighboring islands in the Lesser Antilles, there has long been a deeply interwoven connection between families in Puerto Rico and St. Croix, and as we begin to see the market continue to restabilize, we see the increased interest in cross-Caribbean travel from residents and visitors alike. Cape Air’s recent growth in St Croix and across the U.S. Virgin Islands market helps to underscore the increased necessity and demand.”

Cape Air has been offering affordable, convenient, frequent daily flights throughout the Caribbean since 1998. Cape Air operates the Cessna 402 aircraft which is a nine-passenger, low-wing, twin-engine aircraft exquisitely suited for inter-island flights. With its Caribbean hubs in San Juan and St. Thomas, Cape Air operates more than 80 daily flights to St. Croix, Nevis, Tortola, Vieques, Anguilla, Mayaguez, Culebra, and Virgin Gorda.

Puerto Rico is the Chosen Destination for the World Travel & Tourism Council 2020 Global Summit

The Caribbean island of Puerto Rico, a U.S. territory, is the chosen destination for the World Travel & Tourism Council 2020 Global Summit.

The announcement was made by Gloria Guevara Manzo, President & CEO of WTTC and Puerto Rico’s Governor Ricardo Rosselló Nevares at the closing ceremony of the 2019 Global Summit in Seville, Spain, earlier this year.

The Government of Puerto Rico’s Tourism Company and Discover Puerto Rico will host the upcoming event at the Puerto Rico Convention Center in San Juan, on April 21-23, 2020.

“We are delighted to bring next year’s Global Summit to the beautiful tropical Caribbean island of Puerto Rico, a welcoming and diverse destination, which not only offers visitors glorious beaches, it is also home to the only tropical rainforest in the U.S.," said Guevara Manzo. "Our annual Global Summit brings together the most influential figures from the public and private sector to address the challenges and opportunities facing the Travel & Tourism industry and is the most important event in the calendar each year. Hosting the Global Summit in Puerto Rico reflects the commitment and efforts of the government and tourist board to grow both business and leisure travel.”

Governor Ricardo Rosselló Nevares emphasized, “Travel & Tourism in instrumental in Puerto Rico’s economic development plans, and has proven to be the most resilient sector in our economy. More so, we believe that sound public policy that effectively attends to private sector needs can be a catalyst for change. Events like the WTTC Global Summit not only give us an opportunity to showcase the diversity of our destination’s tourism offering, but also facilitate spaces for the public and private sectors to define the future of Travel & Tourism together.”

Carla Campos, Executive Director of the Government of Puerto Rico's Tourism Ministry, had this to say regarding the summit:  “Every destination has a moment in time to claim its place in the global Travel & Tourism scene; Puerto Rico is on the cusp of becoming a next generation tourism destination, and the WTTC Global Summit is the ideal stage to unveil how the public and private sectors are working together to make it happen. Tourism is a force for good and an ideal vehicle to improve people’s quality of lives. We share that vision with WTTC members and are honored to have the opportunity to host Travel & Tourism leaders from around the world in Puerto Rico next year.”

A joint management and marketing governance structure between the PRTC and Discover Puerto Rico, a newly created and independent destination marketing organization, was recently enacted. Puerto Rico, which attracts more than three million visitors to its shores each year was hard hit by hurricane Maria in 2017. The island is experiencing a tremendous rebound in its tourism sector.

“We’re honored to have been chosen as host destination for the upcoming World Travel and Tourism Council 2020 Global Summit. Puerto Rico is a place where rich culture and natural wonders lay the foundation for an immense bounty of one-of-a-kind experiences. We’re thriving as a destination of global importance and hosting this Summit will elevate even further our tourism offering, positively impacting the local economy. We look forward to welcoming the global tourism industry next year to discover all that Puerto Rico offers,” said Brad Dean, Chief Executive Officer of Discover Puerto Rico.
