The Sands at Grace Bay on Turks & Caicos Unveils Property-Wide Enhancements In 2012

The Sands at Grace Bay resort situated on Providenciales' world-famous Grace Bay Beach has made several property-wide enhancements that will be completed before the busy winter travel season. The resort's award-winning Hemingway's Beachfront Restaurant has added an expansive retractable awning that offers guests additional shade from the sun and an even more enjoyable open-air dining experience just steps away from the beach. A newly installed heater in the resort's main swimming pool will keep guests comfortably warm during the cooler months. Additionally, the resort has undertaken a green initiative by installing an environmentally friendly Bionest wastewater treatment system to irrigate the lush resort grounds and gardens.

Scheduled for completion by December 2012, all 114 luxurious studio and suite accommodations are receiving the following bathroom enhancements: Travertine stone shower, bathtub, flooring and baseboards; Kohler fixtures; curved shower curtain rods; cast iron slip resistant bathtubs; and a fresh coat of paint. And finally, The Sands at Grace Bay has added stand-up paddleboards to their wide array of complimentary guest offerings, which include free use of kayaks, Hobie Cats, snorkeling and windsurfing gear, and bicycles.

"We are continuously trying to improve upon our luxurious resort accommodations and maximize our guest experiences during their stay with us," said Mona Beeson, General Manager of The Sands at Grace Bay. "We are delighted with our growing number of repeat guests who continue to call our property their "home away from home," as well as the increasing number of new guests who are choosing to stay at our resort. We are excited to bring even greater value to return guests and new travelers who will be staying with us this fall and winter."

St. Lucia's Ladera Resort Celebrates 20th Anniversary

Ladera Resort, the legendary St. Lucia hotel that is a fixture on every major top hotel and awards list, is celebrating its 20th Anniversary Year in 2012.

The groundbreaking luxury resort, a haven for celebrities, honeymooners and trendsetters, is situated on a forested ridge, 1,100 feet above the sea, perched above the port town of Soufrière. Originally designed and built 40 years ago as a development called Dasheene, Ladera opened as a resort hotel in 1992.

"Throughout this Anniversary Year, we're taking the Ladera guest experience to an even higher level of luxury, comfort and authenticity," says Olivier Bottois, Ladera's Vice President of Marketing & Operations. Ladera is "20 years young" as Bottois sees it. He adds that "this year we'll be introducing new suites, product enhancements and service innovations that are consistent with our signature guest experience and eco-friendly approach."

Over two decades ago, Ladera pioneered the concept of the open-air, three-walled guest suite that remains the signature design of Ladera and which has become a ubiquitous style, now de rigueur at resorts throughout Saint Lucia. The buildings were designed by the late John DiPol, a visionary American architect. DiPol conceived the concept when he realized that a three-sided series of building was possible due to the prevailing trade winds that approach from the back (eastern side) of the resort and which allow for the missing third wall, an expansive view and interiors with atriums. Each suite embraces the island ambiance through tropical design, with all furnishings crafted on property by local artisans, including elegant four poster hardwood beds and St. Lucian ceramics and textiles throughout. The missing fourth wall allows the most spectacular views of the Sea, unobstructed sunsets, and the volcanic Piton Mountains, which are now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Thanks to the clever design, they also remain sheltered, safe, and completely secluded, with private plunge pools and surrounded by lush tropical landscaping.

Ladera's striking infinity pool, the very first in the world in 1972, was used in the film Superman II when Christopher Reeves flies to St. Lucia to gather flowers for Lois Lane, and is still the dramatic centerpiece of the resort surrounded by lush tropical gardens.

During Ladera's 20th Anniversary Year, the resort will unveil six additional connecting luxury one-bedroom Hilltop Dream suites on Paradise Ridge in October 2012.

"Each new Hilltop Dream Suite will feature the famously breathtaking vistas from the open living rooms and will include private infinity pools," says Bottois. "The open-air bedrooms are designed and appointed with furnishings and fixtures consistent with Ladera's sustainable practices." That includes using locally-woven textiles, custom hardwood furniture crafted on site at Ladera, such as elegant Colonial four-poster king beds. The en-suite bath areas will be equipped with water-efficient Kohler fixtures.

Other noteworthy developments in Ladera's 20th Anniversary Year include a new fitness room, outfitted with state-of-the-art workout equipment. Yoga classes are also now on offer.

The Ti Kai Posé Spa, which now incorporates more natural, organic treatments, will offer new outdoor Couples Massages on Paradise Ridge, a completely private retreat area of the resort which overlooks the Caribbean Sea and Pitons.

Dasheene, Ladera's award winning restaurant, will be taken to even higher culinary acclaim says Bottois, a past board member and Vice Chancelier Culinaire of the Chaine des Rotisseurs and member of The James Beard Foundation, noting that celebrated guest chefs from the Caribbean, the United States, and Europe will be featured at the restaurant.

The Marina-inspired, Village Style Fishing Lodge Cap Cana to Open October 1, 2011 on Dominica Republic

The highly anticipated Fishing Lodge Cap Cana, a luxury resort development on the Eastern tip of the Dominican Republic, is scheduled to open to guests as a Salamander Marina & Beach Resort on October 1, 2011, and will begin taking reservations in July.

Fishing Lodge comprises 302 spacious, Mediterranean-style villas with stunning marina views and designer furnishings -- 220 of which will be available to resort guests. Built on low-rise docks, many feature private infinity pools and swim-out access. Guests and owners will also enjoy a secluded beach via a scenic two-minute ride by private watercraft. Although the majority of the residences have already been purchased, there is still a premier selection of one-, two- and three-bedroom homes available.

As the first property to open within Salamander's Grand Resorts at Cap Cana collection, Fishing Lodge is located within a masterfully designed village which surrounds the largest inland marina in the Caribbean. Upon opening, it will include two restaurants and two bars, four pools, fitness center, and boutique shops on Main Street and plaza settings. Future restaurants, a nightclub, and additional shops are also planned. The second property, Ocean Club Cap Cana, will open in 2012 as a 92-room boutique-style hotel, romantically situated where the marina meets the Caribbean Sea.

Unlike many other Dominican destinations which are only all-inclusive, the Fishing Lodge experience will be open to all guest types and stays -- from family reunions to executive group retreats. The luxury resort will also feature a Jack Nicklaus Signature experience at the exclusive Punta Espada Golf Club, the top-ranked golf course in the Caribbean and Mexico.

Special introductory guest rates of $129-599 per night at the Fishing Lodge are available from October 1-December 31, 2011, ranging across all styles and sizes of accommodation options.
