Though its beginning is still more than half a year away, the 2012
Newport Bermuda Race is already drawing the attention of competitive
sailing enthusiasts, including sailor Bruce Tulio. The race, which is
held only once every two years, has announced the schedule for all of
its 2012 events, which means that Bruce Tulio
and his fellow sailors are already penciling it into their 2012
calendars, either to participate or simply to act as spectators.
In fact, some of the most important dates in the competition are on
the near horizon. The race entry process is scheduled to begin, at the
official website, on January 16, 2012. The registration process will
extend through April 15, leaving prospective sailors a window of just
three months to get their applications in order.
In the meantime, the Newport Bermuda Race has announced that March 15
will mark the publication of the 2012 race program. This document will
offer essential information about the race, including pertinent facts
about the course itself and about the cities of Newport and Bermuda.
Additionally, the program will offer sailors boat inspection tips,
how-to articles, and more.
As for the race itself, the 48th Newport Bermuda Race will commence
on July 15 of next year. While it may seem like a ways off yet, race
officials say participants and spectators should start planning now, as
Bermuda hotel space is difficult to come by.
Bruce Tulio, who is also known as a Ferrari enthusiast, surfer, and pilot, is a fan of the Newport Bermuda event, and has even raced in it himself on multiple occasions. Says Bruce Tulio, “It is a great event for racing enthusiasts and sailors because there is real value placed on friendly and fair competition. The event has always been family-oriented and devoted to simply enjoying the rush and exhilaration of competitive sailing.”
Bruce Tulio notes that even in years when he is not participating in the race itself, he is vigilant to keep up with its proceedings, and follows the action as closely as he can.
